One of most overused phrases in cyber security sales is when providers state that they are vendor agnostic.   What exactly does that mean?    Well I think it’s suppose to mean that we don’t care what you purchase, we can assist you in every technology.   I’m not sure using that phrase is communicating what these companies are trying to say.    Merriam Webster’s dictionary defines it as:

2:  a person who is unwilling to commit to an opinion about something political agnostics *

Based on the true meaning of the word, if a solution provider is agnostic by definition that means they’re not sure if the product is a good one or not.   In the manufacturer world, it means that your solution provider will flip a deal to another manufacturer if the customer changes their mind.   This is one of the reasons that FocusPoint Technologies is Vendor Centric.    We took great care in selecting the manufacturers that we believe are the best for our clients.   Not necessary best of breed however.   That’s a different topic.

So the next time a provider states that they are manufacturer agnostic, pick another solution provider that stands behind their recommendations.
